The East Cobb Foundation was established from 1988-1990 by a visionary group of East Cobb Rotarians when Connelly Sanders and Randy Thompson served as club Presidents. The foundation was designed as a sustaining fund for furthering the purposes of Rotary International ideals in East Cobb. The original goal was to raise $100,000 as principal to be held for future growth, and interest earned would be used to fund appropriate projects. Jim Rhoden initiated matching incentives, and another means for growing the principal fund was through establishment of the "East Cobb Fellows" honoring those who made contributions of $1,000. One condition was determined. A member must first become a Paul Harris Fellow before becoming an East Cobb Fellow.
Current recognition includes designation as a David Stahl Fellow for a donation of $1,000, a Connelly Sanders Fellow for $2,500, a Randy Thompson Fellow for $5,000, and a James Rhoden Fellow for $10,000. In May 2015, Jim Rhoden and Randy Thompson spoke to the club about the East Cobb Foundation. Jim offered $500 matching incentives for club members who would become a David Stahl Fellow. Nine club members stepped up to the plate, and $9,000 was added to the fund.
Each year a committee of the current club President, the immediate three Past Presidents, and a designee of the President determine annual disbursement of interest income funds. As of December 31, 2015, the fund balance had reached $208,015.93, so more humanitarian needs in East Cobb can be met.
